Bios
Mark Baldassare
The firm's founder is a widely-recognized national expert on public opinion. Currently a senior
fellow and research director at the non-partisan Public Policy Institute of California, in San
Francisco, Baldassare is founder and director of the PPIC Statewide Survey. He previously was a
professor and chair of urban planning at the University of California-Irvine, where he founded
and directed the Orange County Annual Survey. He has a PhD in sociology from the University of
California-Berkeley, and has worked in public opinion research for more than 25 years.
Cheryl Katz
The vice president joined the firm in 1986. She has an M.A. in mass
communications with a program emphasis on public opinion from the University of Minnesota. A former
newspaper reporter, she has extensive knowledge of media polling and communications.
